Marcos Maidana vs. Robert Guerrero is a Light Welterweight fight for the WBA World title. The fight will take place in HP Pavilion, San Jose, California, United States on 27 August 2011.
In April 2011 after becoming the interim light welterweight champion of the world, Marcos Maidana regained the chance of dethroning Amir Khan once again after defeating Erik Morales for an interim title. Instead of defending his regular title, Khan was elevated to Super World Champion by the WBA and announced at a press conference that he will, instead, face Zab Judah for a unification of their titles next on July 23. Talks started immediately between Robert Guerrero and Golden Boy Promotions about a possible match-up between him any other champions in his weight class. Guerrero fought on the Morales-Maidana "Action Heroes" HBO PPV undercard and outpointed slugger Michael Katsidis to claim a pair of vacant interim lightweight belts. After his fight, Guerrero then expressed his desire to challenge the winner of the main event.

There was speculation that Maidana was facing Erik Morales for a rematch on July 30. He agreed on a rematch after the fight, but he said there were other fighters in the division he wanted to fight, as well.[8] The fight was never finalized and Morales ended up signing for a bout against England's Anthony Crolla on the Victor Ortiz vs. Floyd Mayweather "Star Power" HBO PPV undercard on September 17th.
